The Turkistan Islamic Party is an extremist group based in Northern Syria. Numbering in the few thousand they are not the biggest force, but they are often used as front line troops due to their motivation. TIP was deployed extensively in the offensive on Aleppo and Hama in late 2024.
TIP's ideology can only be considered similar to that of ISIS. Their propensity for foreign fighters is also very similar to ISIS, indeed most of the group are not Syrians. TIP is also notorious for using child soldiers and suicide fighters/bombers.
The statements of HTS leader Jolani that the militant forces will be tolerant of minorities once it captures all of Syria can therefore be put to rest as absurd. TIP will not be tolerant of non-sunnis, especially Shias, Alawites and Druze.
Regardless of their extremism, no one in the West will know their name. Their battlefield accomplishments will cement a place for them in HTS's new caliphate and a dark age will fall upon Syria.
